Henny Cover-Up

My name game with the name Henny is dedicated to Henny von der Tann. After the death of Henny's sister, Annelise Metsch, and her husband, Twisko Metsch, Henny became the owner of the Bruchhausen estate. Henny von der Tann also belongs to the Haniel family, albeit from a different family tree. After my father fled the USA, she gave him asylum in one of her houses on the estate. We children grew up on the picturesque estate, where ready-made lawns are now sold.

Because of Henny's refined nature, it was important to her that we children grow up with good manners. She invited each of us Köngeter children to a luncheon at the Düsseldorf TV tower, where she taught us how to eat properly with a knife and fork.

Henny also had a profound influence on my mother. She prevented my mother from becoming detached from my father. She often entered our house without warning—it was never locked because the neighborhood was so secure. To my father's annoyance, she placed flowers everywhere.

Aunt Henny and our German Shepherd, Indra, are part of a gruesome story. After we were born, Indra developed a strong protective instinct and would bite anyone who came near us. Sometimes she would disappear, and we had to pick her up from the animal shelter. One of my earliest memories is how happy Indra was when we got her from the shelter. However, Indra was shot by a hunter while hunting illegally. At least, that was the story our parents told us. In reality, however, my father commissioned Henny's second husband, Nicki Hauser, a hunter, to shoot Indra.

Unlike my Aunt Susanne, who believes she had a raising influence on us (which isn't true), I can already confirm this for Aunt Henny von der Tann. She's the only one who comes to mind. Together with her granddaughters Anna and Loretta von der Tann, I often stole raspberries and strawberries from her vegetable garden. She tutored me in English class, during which I almost always fell asleep.
